Five easy ways to go green with your baby

by Jennifer on December 3, 2008

There are some big changes you can make like using cloth diapers (over a billion trees are killed each year to make disposables) – that said, not all of us have time to make giant green changes. If you’re a busy parent on the go, you can still make some easy green changes…

Breastfeed your little one – you already have the equipment for this easy green step.

Make your own baby food – this seems like a big step, but it’s really very simple. You can mash almost any foods you’re already cooking for your meals and give it to your baby. This cuts down on production energy used to make baby food and is usually healthier.

Use LED lighting in the nursery. LED lights are not appropriate for all areas of your house, but are perfectly suited to low lights in the nursery.

Buy organic cotton baby clothing and textiles. These items are sometimes more expensive than conventional – but you can find deals. Also, if you buy organic, just buy less. Your baby doesn’t need a huge wardrobe, just enough clothing to keep him covered and cozy.

Play baby games instead of buying toys. Some toys are good for babies, but really, they’re just as happy with some attention from you. When you do buy toys, be sure to purchase, safe, non-toxic toys.

How are you going green with your little bundle?
